With more than 6 billion people, the world has a large quantity of human shapes and colors. However, by nature, the particular person tends to determine others as black, white, yellow, red and brown. As human spread throughout the world, their adaptations to various living conditions and genetic mutations added different characteristics towards the people. In this sense, the idea of race—a group of men and women with inherited physical characteristics that distinguish it from one more group—is a reality. Therefore, racism is after the basis of discrimination is race. This discrimination is usually the result of an attitude known as prejudice. In my experience, I found that these kinds of attitude can also be really uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous.
Proviso West, that is a high school in Chicago, is often a high school with small diversity in relation to students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. The majority group is African-American students; the minorities groups are Hispanic, some Italian and Greeks. You can not imagine the large quantity of discrimination against the minorities groups. It is unbelievable and disturbing how a few of the teachers, the school police, and even the primary show indifference resolving a fight among African-American and Mexican students.
One day, while I was in lunch time, a black student started to bother some Mexican girls that had been passing by his table. The boyfriend of one with the girls stood up and challenged the black student. Both gangs, African-American and Mexican, started to fight. Foods and chairs in the cafeteria were flying on a air. At the end with the day, the security officers started to search people students who supposedly started the struggle. Then, whilst I was in my classroom, an officer standing on the door asked my English teacher to excuse some students from his class. I could not feel as soon as I heard my name even though he was calling the students in his list. I did not know what to say, this was the very first time I was blame for a thing I did not do.
I went towards the office and got a whole week of suspension. I tried to explain but the Principal seemed to be indifferent to my explaining. When I told him that I wanted to determine the video on the fight (because you'll find cameras during the entire school), he just gave me excuses; he told me that I was not supposed to determine that and it was not negotiable. Also, I heard that several black students had been named to office, and how the a single who started out all this dilemma was not suspended.
In this incident we can see how human beings, whether is often a man or a woman, if they are inside the minority group, they're a lot more probably to be discriminated. These kinds of incidents are a few of the factors that contribute to shape the feeling of belonging inside a minority group, against the racism from others. Therefore, the ones in the majority group start to wonder why racism is these kinds of a large deal, and that may be because they're not discriminated as individuals who are in the minority group. So, in case you have a prejudice attitude (although you might be not supposed to get it), try being fair and don't look the appearance, think about the actions simply because we are all humans.
