1. Background of Chijmes Chijmes is a national heritage site in Singapore. It was a Catholic convent known as the Convent of the Holy sister Jesus while the convent quarters were known as Caldwell House. This Gothic-style chapel was used as a Catholic convent for 131 years onward becoming a popular spot for dining, shopping and frolic presently. However, when I visited later in the evening, when the bars and restaurants begin to operate, there was a vast difference in the ambience compared to earlier in the afternoon. Despite being known as a historical site, I noticed that there were no informative signs to enlighten visitors with its rich history.
