Men were considered stronger and smarter than women and blacks, which was likewise the reason that girls and colored children did not receive proper education. Women and colored people were also denied the right to vote and could not own land. The people in the Womens Rights Movement fought to bring a change in the society and abolish sexism and racism.

One of the greatest leaders was Susan B. Anthony. She met Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who led her to fight for womens rights in 1852. Susan went to a Sons of Temperance approach pattern and was not allowed to speak, due to being a female. They were very ill-mannered to her and told her to listen and learn. Through this experience, she decided that it was time women got the compliance they deserved. In 1854, the signing of petitions for married womens rights and voting rights for women began.
