APPROACHING PEDRO ALMODOVAR TO ENGLISH CULTURE

Abstract. This attempt aims at analysing the translation as a tool for access foreign cultures. I will start this text with an launch about the relationship between concepts of translation and culture. Then, I will point out the role of the media as a bridge between different cultures, focusing my attention in the cinema products. According to postcolonial translation studies, the role of the translation, which in the last century used to be seen as a purely linguistic activity, has changed drastically in recent years. In the world of today, the activity of translating is no longer considered a unspotted transfer of words from one language to another, but a powerful instrument for transferring and overture cultures.



The concept of translation is immanent from the concept of culture, since the process of translating takes place always within a socio-cultural context.

The development of the idea mentioned above is closely linked to the detail that we are living in the era of globalization, where cultural studies control increased considerably and concepts such as multiculturalism, cultural fundamental interaction or otherness have become to a greater extent and more common. Nowadays, there exists an increasing interest in exploring other cultures and the media has contend a crucial role in terms of approaching the cultural otherness to the audiences.
