BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE

My production of Butterflies are Free, by Leonard Gershe was a success in learning. I feel precise proud of the take on that my cast and I have done. The oddity product was not impeccable, but it was a strong origination of the direction that we were going. I chose to work with freshman actors, Leigh Weissman and Katie Cochran; both arena majors and Sam Householder; a dance major. I felt that it would make for an interesting environment if I worked with curse word artists who were also in the beginning stages or structuring their craft. So, the dynamic was a beginner explorative director guiding beginner explorative actors. And this environment really worked well for both sided of this collaboration. Although, I had to wish with a lower level of maturity and understanding of a condensed and concentrated rehearsal wreak, I feel that my hands on approach compensated fairly well. We did all of the foundation work together; in rehearsals where I was able to guide them into their characters we had massive analysis discussions close each of their characters. And we talked a lot somewhat the relationship between each character to the other.
My rehearsal process kept evolving, I started the process with certain ideas about how I wanted to go about working but as we began I allowed that to shift depending on what I was receiving from my cast. The first rehearsals started attain very shaky because we had some schedule conflicts. So we had dickens read-throughs with me filling in for the absent actor. Judging by their reads, each person in my cast was very talented and I wasnt at all worried about their abilities, however I knew that their raw abilities were going to need a lot of my counselling and direction. So I planned my foundation work. For the next 5 rehearsals we did not pick up the script.
