Dr. Rao referred to the concept of balancing economic and employment issue rates while speaking about the increase tendency to look at education as a means to primarily find jobs. While the economic growth was impressive at an average of 8 per cent, this was not reflecting in employment growth, which was hovering between 5 per cent and 6 per cent.
Stating that a clear concept should be developed on opportunities for education to young people, Dr. Rao said that the employment growth should be twice that of the economic growth if everybody was to get the benefits. He pointed out that on that point were representations from the industry for framing syllabus to suit the needs of employers and to create job-ready youth.
Dr. Rao said that the new education policy laid wildness on humanism, research and excellence, but there was also the great need for institutions to think about job opportunities for the youth.
