The Green River Killer

In 1982, dozens of young women in poof County, Washington, disappeared (McCarthy). close to were murdered and separates were brutally discarded around powerfulness County. some of these young women were teenagers. For twenty years, theses deaths and disappearances were attributed to the so-called Green River Killer, which was an unidentified serial murderer (The Seattle). Detectives and forensic scientists reviewed hundreds of items of somatic evidence and interviewed thousands of witnesses but the case remained unsolved until 2001. In 2001, the King County Prosecuting Attorney charged Gary Leon Ridgway with four of these murders because of DNA evidence (The Seattle). In the following year, additional forensic evidence led to 3 more murder charges. The seven charges implicated Ridgway in that a fraction of the Green River homicides. He was linked to except one of eight major areas where victims remains were discovered. After Ridgway was charged with those seven murders, it was speculated that there was another killer at giant because such little evidence connected Ridgway to any of the other forty-two homicides (McCarthy).



After months of interviews with the detectives and experts, Ridgway has confessed to most of the original Green River murders and to a number of other murders in King County. He admitted to cleanup spot six women whose cases went unsolved, that had never been attributed to the Green River killer. He led legal philosophy to the bodies of four of his victims remains that would otherwise not been found. He also identified the sites where he left the victims bodies. It was widely believed that the Green River killer stopped his bloody spree in 1984 (McCarthy). Ridgway has admitted that he did not stop killing until 1998 (The Seattle).
